You the captain must start a new life from scratch. Upon arriving you will receive your first survival tutorial book entitled "Moneywell's Big Book of Survival".
How convenient. It comes with a series of goals that you'll need to complete if you have any hope of uniting your crew members. One important thing to remember as you begin life on First Beach is that you should collect or identify everything you see. Do so using Driftwood. Run over to the ocean to find an area where the fish are swimming. When one jumps out of the water, stab it with the spear. Head over to the fire pit and choose the "cook meal" option.
Book 1, Section 1, Goal 3: Explore the Jungle Explore the thorny plants along the path to the middle of the jungle. Easy enough, no? Book 1, Section 1, Goal 4: Make a Shelter All you need is a roof, which you can find under the "Plans" tab in the menu. At this point, you can head into the Deep Jungle. Proceed down the path to Pier Beach after collecting the hieroglyph.
There are a few things that you can do here. Inspect the Ancient Pier to reveal the fact that there is another island. You should also unlock the Comfort and Fun motives. To figure out how to do that, see the motives section of this guide. Construct a roof and assemble a cot to keep your sim out of the elements. You should also notice a few chimpanzees on Pier Beach. This will unlock your Social motive. Keep interacting with it to achieve the friend status. When one appears carrying a leaf-covered packet, accept it to complete this goal.
This is the only way that you can obtain a certain part of the treasure map. Easy enough. You should have at least one bed plan at this point. If you do not have a table plan I can't remember if you start with one or not then wait until you do.
Book 2, Section 2, Goal 4: Craft a Shirt If you have the materials you need, you can do this at the work bench. Do this by the Ancient Pier. Wait until you have explored Shipwreck Lagoon before you do this so that you don't have to come back. You will need lots of Energy for this. West Beach to be more specific. This will reveal the Hygiene motive, which is easy to keep in check especially as you progress in the game.
Book 1, Section 2: Goal 2: Befriend a Crewmate You went on a pleasure cruise with them and you aren't friends already? Engage in positive, light-hearted social interaction for a little bit until you achieve the friend status. Book 1, Section 2, Goal 3: Invite Sim to Join Tribe Once that sim is your friend, invite them to your tribe so that you'll be able to control more than one player.
Click the switch icon on the bottom of the screen in order to alternate between them. Book 1, Section 2, Goal 4: Find all Crewmates You will meet the rest of your sims in random locations throughout your adventure. You don't have to put forward any extra effort into finding them. Don't worry. You will come across them. Tools It is a good idea to craft as many tools as possible, as early as you can in the game.
There are points that you will not be able to advance beyond in the game without specific tools or items created with specific tools. Cleaning Up Easy way to clean up plates is to run into the ocean. Go out far enough and the plates disappear. Or toss them in the fire. Inventory Built Items Many of the things that you build, for example work benches, stoves, etc, can all be placed in back in your inventory in case you would like to take them with you to another location. Enter Grab mode at the bottom of the Plans menu.
Then select the item, hit the square button, and it will bring up a menu where you can either delete the item or put it in your inventory. Shelter Resources Plans for the different shelters require alot of resources to be in your inventory, especially later in the game.
However, you don't have to use the preset plans for that paticular structure They give you options as to what size you want which can realy save on wood. Build the roof first since it will shelter you other objects from the rain and then you can go back and put up walls, windows, and doors whenever you get enough materials.
Walk up to them to trigger the "Build" option. You will use the workbench to "craft" various tools and items so remember its location. Some must be done to progress through the game. However, not all goals have to be done to complete the ultimate goal of escaping the island. Therefore I will only explain the goals that require more then just common sense to fulfill.
Head to a beach. Walk in water where fish are swimming and select "Spear fish". Then go to your firepit or stove. Select "Cook Meal" and press R trigger to scroll the menu until you see the fish. The trick to fishing with a spear is to wait until you see a little fish jump up out of the water and then you tap X to spear fish.
It's a timing thing. The trick to fishing with the pole is to wait for the red thing to plunge down in the water, then tap x.
Another timing thing. Take radio out of inventory, set down and then turn it on. Scroll up on radio menu and you should see repair transmitter. Select the SOS option from the menu. When you see cook meal action hit up on d-pad and scroll to the very top of the list. Raft must be crafted there.
Then place the trap where you find feathers. Leave it there for a day or so and come to check it. You don't always catch a chicken right away so keep trying. Stand in front of it with spear in hand and it should attack you. A bubble appears above your head right before the attack. Don't forget to pick up your ham after you win. Sharks are more abundant off the shores of Volcano island at night.
Let it grow for a while and then you can harvest it later. Then put the chicken on top of the coop. On Volcano Island, the player will discover the remains of the llama people. The player has the option to return to civilization on this island. They can either build a boat or travel to the volcano's summit and use the radio parts to send an SOS signal to a nearby ship.
The player can also repair a broken ceremonial forge on Volcano Island that will cause a fourth island, Crystal Island, to rise out of the sea, however this is optional and is not required for the player to escape the island. The game contains many discoverable secrets, including secret areas such as Hidden Lagoon and the Secret Pirate's Cove.
These areas can only be accessed once the player has gathered objects such as hieroglyphics and treasure map pieces, however this is a relatively extensive process. Their hair grows longer, but the Sim itself doesn't get older. Another significant difference is some of the usually stock features like marriage have been either removed or adjusted for the alternative gameplay style; for example, players have to perform a specific sequence of actions in order for their Sims to get engaged.
While this is true in ordinary Sims titles, other titles are more open in their methods of reaching engagement, whereas the process in Castaway is somewhat fixed. Like The Urbz and later Sims console titles, you cannot have children. For unknown reasons, the PlayStation Portable is the only version of the game to feature WooHoo, but only after marriage and specific requirements are met.
Additionally, a staple feature in the console games, two player, was not present in this game. Castaway received mixed to positive reviews, such as an 8. While it gives an interesting twist on the standard shipwreck concept, the hampered nature of the guidebooks, strange placement of plans in menus and continual micromanagement does hamper some of the fun of the title.
However, Sims fans will find this to be a good break from the traditional Sims formula, and one that will keep them entertained for a while.
