The Calvan does not have a counter-bore like the Time Sert and to remove the step material before tapping the hole to accept the insert.
The Time Sert counterbore is not designed to be used with the Calvan Using the on 01 and up Romeo heads can result in the spark plug being positioned up a little higher. However, we've had absolutely no problems reported when using the on 01 and up Romeo style heads. Calvan's larger outside diameter insert, which is considered a permanent repair is used in cases when smaller parts store temporary repairs have failed.
The inferior parts store inserts are supposed to be held in by using a swedge tool on the top of the insert and hitting it with a hammer! This along with our info, the job can be done quickly and accurately. The cylinder leak tester saves time when making sure the valves are closed.
The line-up guide allows for straight reaming even on back cylinders. Use of an air ratchet with a socket on the reamer allows for a 90 degree right angle for easier drilling. This makes working in tight spaces more comfortable. The Calvan thread repair inserts have stronger threads than the originals. The cost of the repair is only a fraction of replacement cylinder heads, the head gasket set, coolant, labor, etc. Also, be aware that many re-manufactured cylinder heads have inferior repair inserts like Helicoils or Lisle.

It's worth saying again "the Calvan kit has a much thicker insert that can be used when other thinner repairs like the Heli-coil Save-Thread or Lisle have failed to hold".

I had no problem with back spark plug hole on the passenger side.
I reamed the hole, blew it out using brake clean and then tapped the hole. Blew it out again using brake clean and air from compressor, mixed up some JB Weld, put on threads, screwed it in, hooked up the igintion coil and started up the truck.
No problems. Thanks for the tips which were also helpful. Took only about 30 minutes of actual work. I purchased the CalVan spark plug thread repair kit for my truck and I received the Mount for quicker delivery which was exactly the same kit and price and was closer to my location.
The Free Tips were very helpful and are not available anywhere else. To do the job takes a little mechanical ability and you have to be able to read and follow instructions, but I was able to get my truck back on the road quickly. Dennis communicated with me through email and on the toll free number, and couldn't have been more helpful, unless he came out and did the job himself!

They also make it for the BluePoint label for Snap On for about twice the price - just a different label! Thanks, DennisB. Bought a Dorman from a parts store that blew out after driving a week. That was a terrible feeling. The Calvan has large diameter inserts that was able to fix the spark plug hole and save the time and expense of replacing the cylinder head.
Found the extra DenLors tips helpful as well just ask for them in comments during checkout. I would only add that anyone doing this job needs a video inspection camera too.
Metal inside can do damage to the valves, cylinder walls etc. Well enough ranting Get the Calvan if you wanna spark plug blowout fixed right. The tips were very helpful. All you gotta do is ask for them and DenLors will send them by email. Dennis was also very helpful over the phone. I purchased the Calvan kit after having my third spark plug blow out on my '97 Expedition 5.
